LOST ODYSSEY I REVIEW (2021)
Hello, guys. What is the likelihood that the director who had a hand in jRPG Final Fantasy from 1 to 12 will want to leave and start his own campaign to make a new, even more epic jRPG? What is the probability that such a person will be joined by a talented composer of all Final Fantasys completely by accident?? A professional Japanese writer will also come? A popular manga artist will draw art for the game? And Microsoft itself will give you a whole bag of money? He also wants to make the game an XBOX 360 exclusive? What is the probability of all this? The stars aligned correctly to create Lost Odyssey.
ABOUT THE PLOT AND SETTING
I will say that for me Lost Odyssey was right Final Fantasy 13. This is how I would dream to see her. I say that the 13th finale at one time disappointed everyone, but Lost Odisi, on the contrary, pleased. The story begins with a great battle, where knights, magicians, and giant steam engines clashed. Knights chop down magicians, magicians resurrect knights, machines chop up people like soulless meat grinders. To top it all off, a meteorite falls on the battlefield, burning everything in the world. Why is there only one fighter left alive, Caim Argomar? To be honest, he doesn’t understand it himself. Everyone died, he himself should lie in Mother Earth, but he still continues to walk around the world. He returns to the city of Ur to report that he is the only one left alive.
In Ur, this also does not surprise anyone, because we find out that Kaim is immortal. Yes, like a highlander, he does not know how to die. Even in battle, if you kill him, after three turns he will revive himself. He lives for a very long time, but knows little, first name, last name, rank and how to chop monsters. And like in all jRPGs he is given a task. The city of Ur builds its version of the Eye of Sauron, the Great Staff. It’s like a Wi-Fi tower, but it doesn’t distribute Wi-Fi, but magic. This thing shouldn’t be broken! Kaim must travel through the mountains and find out what’s what. To accompany him he is given the energetic Seth Bellmore, a short skirt, stylish hairstyle and large breasts. And they both will have to spend the night in an abandoned hotel in the mountains. But nothing will happen, because the game is a fairy tale, so Lost Odisi will have fairy tale motifs. A chatterbox spy will be sent to Kaim and Seth. This is where this whole story begins. And ahead are great battles with the neighboring empire, saving the world from total freezing, traveling through the castle with evil spirits.
The heroes will go through a lot during the adventure. I generally compare jRPGs to anime series. In 50-60 hours, players will experience so much with the characters that they will mistake them for relatives. The immortal Seth finds out that she has a son, only he has already grown up and aged. Magician spy Jensen will stop being selfish and marry the princess of a neighboring kingdom. Kaim finds out why he is haunted by a story where a girl falls from a hill, and he does not have time to save her. The game ends with all the immortals leaving for a beautiful, distant world that mortals cannot enter. Here you can only applaud the skill of Hironobu Sakaguchi. Very sincere.
ABOUT THE GRAPHICS AND CONNECTION WITH https://casumocasinoonline.co.uk/ FINAL FANTASY 8, 9 AND 10
What Lost Odisi looks like after 13 years? I’ll tell you that it is not outdated in terms of graphics quality. And no one really cares about her, does not perform periodic plastic surgeries to tighten textures. At one time, a lot of money was invested in it, so much that it could have been enough for a numbered Finale. Plus it was made by a master of the genre. And he knew how to. Personally, the game gives me the impression of the 8th finale. Heroes of correct proportions, graphics as realistic as possible. But I’ll tell you that it’s not even about the proportions or the realistic graphics. Lost Odisi gives an impression like the 8th Finale. And this is more than words can describe. I don’t know if you’ll understand, but I’ll try to explain. In the 8th finale, the world is close to the real one; neither cats nor dogs live in it. Iron spider robots run around instead of tanks. Locations change from a realistic urban battlefield, to a whitewashed nanotech laboratory-like training camp, then the heroes dive into the fantasy caves of Ifrit, and then get into a realistic car and drive home. Fantasy gives way to realism, and realism gives way to fantasy. And this gives you a subtle feeling that you are seeing not just a game, but something that was not there before. Lost Odisi enters this subtle territory of an old forgotten feeling. In it, a fantasy battlefield is replaced by an industrial steampunk city, then the heroes dive into forests and mountains with fantasy animals, then again they are doused with a contrasting shower of a realistic seaside port area. It is immediately clear that it was not a man from the street who sat behind Lost Odisi, but a master who had a hand in the 8.
I’ll continue the topic about the connection with the finals and why I continued to like Lost Odyssey even after 5 hours. If the impression of the game reminded me of the 8th finale, then leveling up and the entire menu reminded me more of the 9th. Rings and earrings teach heroes magic while they are equipped and the learning scale is filled. Completely filled the learning scale – now you can use new magic even without the necessary ring. Due to the fact that you put rings and earrings on the heroes, they are reflected in the appearance of the heroes. These are accessories, not clothing; you cannot dress up heroes as chefs with caps on their heads and send them into battle. But funny situations still happen. The heroine Seth just wore beautiful emerald earrings and lost her magic, and the player takes and puts these same emerald earrings on the stern warrior Kaim. A stern soldier waves a sword in earrings and it doesn’t bother anyone. It pissed me off. The weapons also do not remain the same, the magician took the staff of fire – now in battle the staff will burn with flame. This whole menu, the ways to study abilities and the changing weapons in battle reminded me of the 9th finale. The entire Lost Odisi has collected all the best from parts 8 and 9. By God, if Lost Odisi had been renamed the 13th finale, no one would have even started complaining on the Internet.
Otherwise, Lost Odyssey turned out to be a very solid jRPG with all the necessary attributes that are accepted in the genre. Here are the golden conservation spheres that make a magical sound when you enter them, here are random battles, here is a long plot with betrayals and an evil, despicable villain who decided to become a god, here are fairy-tale cities and even music. I will say this: those who missed Lost Odisi missed the finale.
In Lost Odisi fights with ATB? No. In Lost Odyssey, the battles are more reminiscent of the 10th finale. There are moves. At the beginning of each turn, the player issues commands on the multi-colored Xbox buttons. Enemies also give commands. The game itself compares the characteristics and decides in what order who goes. In the lower left corner of the screen there is even a line with character icons so that the player understands who is in which queue. Like in the 10th final! That is, once you have given out commands, you can no longer influence the heroes. They themselves go and hand out cradles to their enemies. The camera takes such cinematic shots, as if you were not in a fantasy game, but in Call of Duty. I will say that they did this for a reason. The director of the game wanted the battle to have a strategic part and an action part. Gave out orders – this is the strategic part. How’s the action going?? When the hero runs towards the enemy, you need to hold the right trigger and then release it at the right moment. If you do this, the hero will hit with a critical hit. In this action part of the fight, you need to respect the timing. If you missed the time or pulled the trigger, then it won’t work out. I spent half a game learning how to get into timing. The battles themselves are not the easiest. Lost Odisey is not Dark Souls, but the player will have to lose and load. In boss fights – and even more so. I killed each boss 3-4 times. That makes them interesting. There is a challenge.
ABOUT THE WORLD OF DREAMS
The heroes in the game travel to different countries and continents, travel a lot and have to spend the night in hotels. sleep a lot. They are not lazy, dreams are just an important part of the game. The main character Kaim is a taciturn guy, keeps everything to himself and lives for many centuries, so he has seen a lot of things. He saw far from the most pleasant things. In his dreams, he experiences again and again how his wife threw herself from a cliff, and he could not help her, he has dreams where he met an eight-year-old girl in one city and became friends with her, but he had to leave, then he returned many years later, the girl grew up, then grew old and became a grandmother, but she recognized Kaim, she asked for a long time what force left him to live for so long. All these dreams were made without a hitch, the stories touch the soul, because they were written by a separate professional writer. Kiyoshi Shigimatsu. Plus the director put a separate person to bring dreams to life. The dreams themselves are reminiscent of an audiobook on YouTube: they are voiced by professionals, they are animated with cool pictures and the stories are interesting. Each dream lasts 20 minutes. And then I noticed a big minus of the game. Lost Odisi does not have Russian language. I’m not talking about Russian voice acting, at least the subtitles worked. An ordinary person will not understand anything and will waste. I know English, but in dreams it is too difficult. I tried to read everything, but halfway through the story my head started to hurt from foreign words. Unfortunately, most dreams will not be read by anyone. It’s a pity! I haven’t seen this feature anywhere else. Exclusive!
MY FAVORITE EPISODE
What episode of Lost Odisi did I personally like?? As a horror lover, I loved the episode in the witch’s mansion. A fairytale game, onion monsters, fantasy spiders, and when you enter this mansion, it gives me goosebumps. It’s like you’re playing Resident Ivl. There’s such a camera on the side, as if you’re playing on PS1. The doors are terribly fastened there, the shutters in the windows are slamming. Briefly speaking! I didn’t expect to see this in a fantasy game. A separate award for the director for this episode!
Lost Odyssey is designed for repeated playthroughs. I don’t know if Hironobu Sakaguchi felt that Lost Odyssey would be his last game or not, but he specifically wanted to sharpen the game for repeated playthroughs. There’s a new game in Lost Odyssey +. All things disappear, but abilities and level remain. Kaim begins to cut down the initial bosses with the second swing of his sword. Why do you need a new game + and a pumped up hero?? The thing is that on your first playthrough you won’t get to all the places. There are places with abnormally strong monsters, you understand that they are not for the first playthrough. I personally remember the dying purple forest. It was invented in the form of a labyrinth. There were optional riddles to solve and I gave up. Either I didn’t understand something, or I didn’t have the required item, but I couldn’t open all the boxes there. I abandoned the puzzle halfway through and decided to solve it on the next playthrough. I played Lost Odisey in 2012 and by 2021 I haven’t bothered to play it again.
It’s time to take stock. What to play Lost Odissi on now? You can, of course, on YouTube. There I myself passed Resident IVL 8. But seriously, it’s not that easy to play now. You need an Xbox because Lost Odisey is exclusive to this console. It’s not even on PC! Since the Xbox is not the most revered console in our area, most players will discard the idea of getting acquainted with the game, a minority will watch it on YouTube. And if you have an Xbox, then you can use it even now. And you don’t need to look for an Xbox 360, the more modern Xbox ONE or Xbox Series S/X will do. I love that Microsoft is backwards compatible with all consoles. Thinking about retro players! Thank you for watching.
